Harrigan's application for the Dobie Paisano project. Inscription by Harrigan dated March 18, 1987: "This is my application for Paisano the year I won (after 3 attempts)." Contents include an undated, 3-page, typed application outlining biographical data and Harrigan's literary accomplishments; attached to application is a photograph of Harrigan. Also includes typescript of provisional first chapter of Aransas. Typescript has some handwritten corrections and is accompanied by a typed explanation of the proposed novel. Bound typed manuscript of Sleepyhead, Harrigan's first published collection of poetry has handwritten corrections by author.

As a freelance journalist, Stephen Harrigan has written articles for several publications including Rolling stone, The Texas observer and Texas monthly. He received the Dobie Paisano fellowship in 1977 and acted as president of the Texas Institute of Letters from 1985-87. From 1973-78 Harrigan edited a small poetry magazine titled Lucille.
